EuroCup 2026-26: Where Do the Three Turkish Teams Stand in the Power Ranking?

On October 1, 2026, the EuroCup tips off with 32 teams split into four groups of eight. Every club plays exactly 14 regular-season games. The top four from each group advance, and from the Round of 16 through the Finals every tie is a best-of-three series. Three of those 32 places belong to Turkish clubs. Eurohoops' preseason power ranking places PAOK, Bahcesehir, Aris, Hapoel Jerusalem, Tenerife and Türk Telekom in the contender tier. Two Turkish teams are named explicitly. The third is not. A 32-team ranking that leaves a third of its core readership unaccounted for is worth noting before the basketball talk begins. The format this season is fundamentally different. Fourteen regular-season games is a small sample. With eight teams per group and four qualifying spots, a club needs roughly nine or ten wins to be safe, but an 0-3 start forces a team to win about 80 percent of what remains. There is no room for an extended experimental phase. The best-of-three structure also changes how rosters are built. A single-elimination game rewards luck and one hot individual night. A three-game series rewards depth, coaching adjustments and half-court quality. That is why Turkish, Greek, Israeli, Spanish and Italian clubs all recruited toward experience this year. Domestic-league inequality matters too. A mid-table ACB or Turkish League side can enter the EuroCup in better shape than a champion from a smaller league. Budget gaps between leagues are undisclosed, so this can only be judged by eye. PAOK is the most thoroughly described club in the original ranking. Nick Calathes, Cedi Osman, Marcus Foster, Elijah Mitrou-Long and Breein Tyree form a deep, experienced and creative backcourt. Andrea Trinchieri is the head coach, and that variable carries more weight than any name on the roster. Trinchieri is known for shortening rotations and prioritising half-court discipline over pace. With an older guard group, that is a sound choice. Bahcesehir follows a similar formula with a stronger domestic identity: NBA and EuroLeague-tested guards plus a physical forward corps. Türk Telekom under Erdem Can does the same, with experienced guards and a mobile frontcourt. Those two are the clearest confirmed Turkish entries in the contender tier. Aris has the highest ceiling. They own a quality backcourt and a young coach in Vassilis Spanoulis. Cohesion is a different story from individual talent. A star-heavy roster under a rookie head coach is a high-ceiling, low-floor model. Hapoel Jerusalem is the club most likely to be misevaluated. Jared Harper, described as the most dangerous guard in the competition, will start the season injured. Lorenzo Brown and Shake Milton can absorb some creation, but losing a primary penetrator in a 14-game group phase is a double blow: less production and lost time building chemistry. Tenerife go the other way. Marcelinho Huertas and Giorgi Shermadini are in the closing stretch of their careers. The club retained most of its core and its identity despite a coaching change. Jaka Lakovic inherited an established system. The problem is age and game volume. Cluj and Bourg represent the opposite approach. Cluj overhauled almost the entire roster. Bourg shifted to a younger, less proven group. Over 14 regular-season games, time to gel is a luxury. Cedevita Olimpija kept most of its core and added creativity, a lower-risk choice. On the Turkish side, the biggest data gap is the third club. The original analysis only confirms Bahcesehir and Türk Telekom. If the remaining side competes at a lower domestic level, its absence from the contender tier is professionally reasonable. A power ranking is not a forecast. Eurohoops itself states that the four groups differ significantly in strength and that the ordering does not reflect final standings. That is the largest blind spot of every preseason ranking: it measures roster quality, while results measure schedule. In a 14-game group phase, the draw matters more than form. A team sharing a group with four genuine contenders may outperform a higher-ranked side sitting in a soft group. Any conclusion about the Nth-best team before opening night carries a large error bar. The second blind spot is the data foundation. This ranking includes no metric at all: no OffRtg, no DefRtg, no per-minute efficiency, real or adjusted. Every judgment rests on reputation, experience and role descriptions. It still has value because the author is a deep European basketball specialist, but it is editorial opinion, not a forecast model. I trust numbers more than people, because people know how to lie while numbers only know how to be wrong. Here, the data barely exists to argue with. Data is never innocent, only its owner is. The third blind spot is rarely mentioned: the three-game format can mask regular-season weaknesses. A talented team that starts slowly can still reach the knockout rounds, at which point its group-phase statistics become noise.
